Lady Vikings Stay Perfect In The MVL, Dump Curwensville 64-26

FLINTON – Remaining perfect in Moshannon Valley League (MVL) play the Glendale Lady Vikings moved to 7-0 in league action on Wednesday night as they downed visiting Curwensville by a score of 64-26.

The Lady Vikings defeated the Lady Tide earlier this season at Curwensville, 58-17.

Curwensville stared the game hanging around with the Lady Vikings, being up 5-4 with a little over three minutes gone in the first.

Then the Glendale defense started to take over, forcing turnovers and grabbing a number of rebounds that propelled them to a 14-6 margin after one quarter.

All that, and some hot shooting for the Lady Vikings, carried them to its best quarter of the evening, outscoring the Lady Tide 22-8 in the second eight minutes to take a commanding 36-14 bulge into intermission.

Out of the halftime break Glendale continued breaking down the Lady Tide offense and still managed to put good numbers up with an 18-6 third frame. And after three quarters were in the books it was now all Lady Vikings, leading 54-20 heading into the final eight minutes.

With a little over four minutes remaining in the contest Glendale brought on the mercy rule when the score reached 60-20.

Lady Tide head coach Bob Desmett spoke after the game, commenting, “Glendale is a well coached team with a top notch defense. And we told the girls to keep moving on offense and not stop when their defense pressured us. I just hope that with the last three games of the season coming up we can have a great effort.”

High scorer for Curwensville was Brianna Swindell with five points.

With a well balanced attack the Lady Vikings had four players reach double figures with Olivia Reese having a game high 17 points while Hanna Noel dumped in 12, Kyla Campbell hit for 11 and Madison Lukehart adding 10 tallies.

Glendale is now 13-7 overall this season, and as mentioned earlier, a perfect 7-0 in the MVL.

There was no junior varsity game.

The Lady Tide, 4-15 overall and 2-4 in the MVL, are home for its next game against Sheffield on Friday night. JV’s tip-off at 6 pm with the varsity to immediately follow.
