TYRONE — The two-game winning streak for the Clearfield Lady Bison had their confidence riding high, especially after the thrilling victory the night prior against Curwensville. That confidence was taken on the road on Tuesday night against the Tyrone Lady Golden Eagles for a Mountain League matchup.
All the confidence they had was not enough on Tuesday evening, as the home squad in orange, black and white, became like the famous Orange Blossom Special train, rolling down the court and to the basket like a locomotive to the station. Tyrone made quick work of the Lady Bison in a 63-17 rout that ended under the Mercy Rule clock.
Tyrone came out shooting early and often, while also holding Clearfield at bay, limiting opportunities. The Lady Bison only hit seven shots from the floor on the night, only one coming from beyond three-point range. Emma Hipps, who the night prior hit the game-winner against the Lady Tide, was held to only three points, while it was McClain Alt that led the Lady Bison in scoring with seven points, all coming in relief minutes from the bench.
Meanwhile, the Lady Golden Eagles were rolling. In the first eight minutes alone, Tyrone hit 11 shots, with seven of them from beyond the arc, to take a 30-7 advantage. In all, Tyrone hit 13 3-point shots. By the time the first half was over, the running clock was almost guaranteed to be utilized as the Lady Golden Eagles held the 50-11 lead.
With the running clock in the second half, Tyrone was limited to only 13 points, but were still making shots from deep range in the third quarter before slowing the pace in the final eight minutes.
Emma Getz led all scorers with 21 points, while Jaida Parker added in 13 points, and Stephanie Ramsey netted another 12.
Clearfield (5-14) closes out January with a home contest on Friday night against Penns Valley. Tip off at 6 p.m. for junior varsity. Varsity will follow after.
