CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville Golden Tide Wrestling Team improved their overall record to 8-7 after a thumping of the Punxsutawney Chucks Monday night.
In a match that sported seven matches and seven forfeits, Curwensville found strength in numbers, getting a 36 point head start by sporting a nearly full lineup.
In matches wrestled, though, Punxy won five of seven. That isn’t a completely telling story because some of Curwensville’s best wrestlers got forfeits, but it did show that Punxy’s small team didn’t go down without a fight.
Notably, Curwensville’s undefeated senior Zach Holland (16-0) received a forfeit, as did sophomore Jacob Carfley (14-4) and junior Jake McCracken (15-3). These three wrestlers are likely to win most of the time as it is, so the forfeit points aren’t completely a giveaway.
The two Curwensville wrestlers that did win their head to head matches were senior Adam Straw (8-11) 152, who pinned Punxy’s Vincenzo Scott in 1:26, and heavyweight sophomore Brennen McCarty (9-6), who beat Hunter Harris by a 4-2 decision.
The Curwensville Golden Tide will return to the mat in 10 days, when they travel to Saint Marys.
