JOHNSONBURG – The Curwensville Golden Tide Wrestling Team traveled to Johnsonburg Friday night, where they went just 2 for 9 in matches wrestled, losing by a wide margin of 54-16.
Juniors Jake McCracken (14-3) and Duane Brady (12-5) were the sole Golden Tide winners of the evening, both earning bonus points. McCracken pinned Johnsonburg’s Isaac Zimmerman at 170, and then Brady major decisioned Christian Krug 13-0 at 182.
The Tide did have a few close matches that could have been winnable. Senior Caleb Stiles (6-6) lost 2-1 at 120 pounds to Johnsonburg’s Collin Porter. Freshman Nik Fegart (8-10) lost 6-4 to Rayce Milliard. The rest of the matches ended in fall or forfeit.
Head Coach Dean Swatsworth’s only comment on the night was that this was “Not good.”
In December, Johnsonburg beat Curwensville as well, but by a much closer 48-30 score. Of note, several Curwensville wrestlers were not weighed in, including undefeated senior Zach Holland (15-0).
Curwensville still has a 7-7 overall record, and they will host a weak Punxsutawney team on Monday, January 13th. Then they will be off for 10 days.
