HYDE – St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy out of Boalsburg dealt the Clearfield girls basketball team a setback on the Lady Bison home floor on Monday night by the score of 52-31.
In what has been a season of quick starts and slow starts for the Lady Bison, this game was of the slow start variety.
As Clearfield coach Joe Castagno said after the game, “This is one of those games where we got off to a slow sluggish start that killed us and we just couldn’t catch up.”
St. Joe’s started out with an 11-5 edge in the first quarter and then stretched its lead to 20 at the break with a 14-5 second frame showing.
The Lady Bison didn’t fold in the second 16 minutes even though they were outscored over that period 27-21. The deficit from the first half was just too much to overcome.
Then Castagno added, “Our kids deserve some credit for playing hard tonight, but we just couldn’t get the ball to drop into the hoop.”
Megan Durandetta had nine points, all on three-point buckets, for Clearfield, followed by eight from Emma Hipps.
The Lady Wolves had two girls in double figures with Scantlon leading the way with 16 and Kathleen Simander tossing in 12.
Clearfield was just 2 of 6 from the charity stripe with St. Joe’s hitting on 4 of 9.
There was no junior varsity game.
The Lady Bison (2-7) travel on Wednesday to Penns Valley for a Mountain League game with JV action tipping off at 6 pm and the varsity to immediately follow.
