WINGATE — After a successful start to the 2019-2020 campaign against the Golden Tide of Curwensville, the early season road trip for the Clearfield Bison continued on Tuesday night. Their opening game in Mountain League competition came in Wingate against the home-standing Bald Eagles of Bald Eagle Area.
The Bison didn’t mind the fact they had yet to compete in-game on their home court, as head coach Nate Glunt had his team focused and ready from opening tip to final buzzer, securing a decisive 56-38 triumph to stay undefeated on the young season.
All five of the Bison starters contributed on the scoreboard, with Cade Walker leading the way with a game-high 22 points thanks to 10 buckets from the floor. Andrew Lopez came in with another 13 pointsf, including two of the three Bison treys that found the net.
Clearfield held the lead through the first half, holding a 25-18 edge heading into halftime. The third quarter was when the Bison pulled away in a big way as they held the Eagles to just eight points in the third stanza, while adding another 20 to their total to enter the final quarter with a 45-26 advantage. From there, Clearfield controlled the clock and played it safe in the final eight minutes.
Bald Eagle saw Jaden Jones lead in scoring with 14 points, while Nick Maynard added in another 13. Clearfield did struggle at the foul line, only shooting 9-for-16, including just 1-for-4 in the first half.
The Bison (2-0) continue their opening-season road trip on Friday night when they head to Huntingdon to face the Bearcats. Tip-off for junior varsity will be at 6 p.m. with varsity to follow.
