WOMEN’S SOCCER
ERIE — Sophomore goalkeeper Madi Jones (Clearfield) was one of seven Penn State Behrend players named to the 2019 All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Team announced early last week.
She was selected to the third team for the second year in a row for a 10-3-2 record with 37 saves and a 1.18 goals-against average that was third-best in the conference.
Jones made her 16th consecutive start in goal Saturday in an Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Tournament first-round game against McDaniel at Westminster, Md. and recorded five saves while surrendering two goals in the first half.
Penn State Behrend was unable to register a shot on goal against the hosts, who added four goals against back-up goalie Morgan Harding for a 6-0 win. They then defeated Pfieffer 2-0 Sunday to advance to the Final Four.
The Lions were runners-up in the AMCC at 8-1-1 and finished 10-8-2.
Jones had a 10-4-2 record with three complete-game shutouts in 1,338 minutes. She made 42 saves and allowed 19 goals for a 1.28 goals-against average.
Her two-season totals are a 23-11-2 record, 96 saves and 35 goals allowed.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Freshman forward/midfielder Alayna Ryan (Clearfield) registered one of Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s two shots on goal in a 2-1 loss to West Division No. 1 seed Slippery Rock in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships quarterfinals last Tuesday.
The Crimson Hawks ended the season 10-9 after placing fourth in the West Division at 8-8.
Ryan made 15 starts in 19 appearances and was third on the team with three goals and 10 points. She logged a pair of game-winning goals.

MEN’S SWIMMING
ALTOONA — Freshman Isaac Swanson (Clearfield) won two races and broke a Penn State Altoona record in one of his two runner-up finishes during the Lions’ 136-112 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference loss to Alfred (N.Y.) State in the Adler Natatorium Saturday.
Swanson, who was the AMCC Swimmer of the Week the previous week, lowered the program’s standard for the 100-yard backstroke to 54.60 seconds, breaking the mark of 55.24 set in February of 2017.
He also set personal records by touching first in the 200 free in 1:48.11 and the 200 individual medley in 2:02.73.
His other second was a 26.78 effort in the 50 backstroke.
Penn State Altoona is 3-1 in dual meets.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
LATROBE — Senior Cody Spaid (Clearfield) just missed a double-double in helping to key Pitt-Greensburg’s 87-69 non-league win over host Saint Vincent Saturday.
The 6-7 forward hit eight of 10 shots, one a three-pointer, for 17 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds as the Bobcats evened their record at 1-1 by beating their backyard rival for the first time since joining the NCAA in 1997.
Spaid also had five assists.
He had eight points, five rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot last Tuesday when Pitt-Greensburg lost its opener, 74-67, at Washington & Jefferson.
A three-year letterman with 50 starts in 63 games, Spaid entered his final season with 452 points (7.2 ppg), 380 rebounds (6.0 rpg), 116 assists, 37 steals and 59 blocks.

WRESTLING
FINDLAY, Ohio — Mercyhurst sophomore 197-pounder Luke McGonigal (Clearfield) roared back from a first-round loss with four first-period falls to claim fifth place at the Findlay College Open Saturday.
After being pinned by Billy Bowlen of Seton Hill at 4:31, McGonigal decked Isaiah McDougal of Midway in 47 seconds, Nathan Williams of Ashland in 46 seconds, Michael Viramontes of Notre Dame (Ohio) at 1:13 and Chris Droege of Lake Erie at 1:14.
At the Ohio Intercollegiate Open hosted by Case Western in Cleveland Nov. 10, McGonigal came out on the short end of two narrow decisions, 7-6 against Zach Ancewicz of Edinboro and 5-3 to Nicholas Mason of Tiffin while winning one bout by forfeit.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
ALTOONA — Freshman Madi Weber (Curwensville) scored eight points in her first appearance for Saint Vincent in a 108-83 non-conference rout of Penn State Altoona Friday night.
A 5-11 forward, Weber did not play in the Bearcats’ opener, a 63-62 win over Carnegie Mellon.

FOOTBALL
LOCK HAVEN — Linebacker Christian Rumery (Clearfield) was one of four graduating seniors honored prior to kickoff for Lock Haven’s season finale Saturday, and the Bald Eagles made it more special by nipping Gannon 28-27 in front of 571 chilly fans in Hubert Jack Stadium.
The 6-0, 235-pounder saw action in every game for the 2-9 Bald Eagles, finishing with four solo tackles and six assists.
