Third Quarter Push Lifts Otto-Eldred Over Golden Tide 38-22

CURWENSVILLE – Two teams each with a record of one win and six losses squared off Friday night at Coach Andy Evanko Stadium in Curwensville with both hoping for win number two on the 2019 high school football season.

After 48 minutes of battle it was the Terrors of Otto-Eldred defeating the Curwensville Golden Tide by a score of
38-22.

Otto-Eldred owned the first 12 minutes scoring first with 8:39 left on the first quarter clock on a five yard touchdown run by quarterback Cole Sebastian with T. J. Vanscoter then running in for the two point conversion attempt.

Up by an 8-0 score the Terrors put another six on the scoreboard when Sebastian hit Cameron Magee on a 41 yard TD pass with 4:42 to play before the second quarter. The try for the two point conversion failed.

If Otto-Eldred owned the first quarter the Golden Tide certainly owned the second.

Curwensville started the second quarter on a six minute, 21 second drive that ended with freshman quarterback Daniel McGarry sneaking in from the one yard line. Duane Brady added two points on the conversion run and the Tide trailed by only six at 14-8.

With just 22 seconds before halftime the Tide’s Brady scored from the five yard line with Jacob Mullins kicking the extra point giving Curwensville a 15-14 edge at the intermission.

Unfortunately the Tide couldn’t keep the second quarter momentum swing as the Terrors came out and scored 24 unanswered points to take control of the contest.

First it was Sebastian tossing a one yard touchdown pass to Magee and then a two point conversion toss to Jake Merry to make it 22-15 in favor of Otto-Eldred with 5:39 to play in the third.

Next it was Sebastian scoring on a two yard run with 2:57 remaining before the fourth quarter and then threw another two point conversion pass, this time to Magee, and suddenly in was 30-15 in favor of the Terrors.

Otto-Eldred would pick up its final points of the game as time ran out in the third quarter when Sebastian hooked up with Ethan Smith on a 30 yard TD strike. A two point conversion pass from Sebastian to Vanscoter ended the scoring for the Terrors, now heading into the final frame up 38-15.

Terror quarterback Sebastian had some lofty stats on the night, with over 300 yards of total offense. He was 14 of 30 passing with 263 yards and carried the ball 10 times for 59 yards.

The final score of the game came when the Tide’s Brady ran it in from the six yard line as 2:24 was all that was left on the clock. Mullins added the PAT. Brady had a huge game for the Tide, with 162 yards on 25 totes of the football.

Curwensville (1-7)  is off until Friday, October 25, when they travel to Brockway to play the Rovers with a kick-off set for 7:30 pm.
