Campus Corner: Jones Registers Six Saves in 1-1 Tie

MEADVILLE — Sophomore goalkeeper Madi Jones (Clearfield) turned away six shots as Penn State Behrend dueled host Allegheny to a 1-1 stalemate in double overtime last Tuesday.

She faced 10 shots on goal in another non-conference game Saturday, and Carnegie Mellon cashed half of them for a 5-0 win.

Jones has started the last four games for the 1-6-2 Lions and owns a 1.80 goals-against average with 14 saves in 400 minutes.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Freshman forward/midfielder Alayna Ryan (Clearfield) assisted on Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s lone goal in a 3-1 loss to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division front-runner Slippery Rock last Wednesday.

She also recorded one shot on goal.

Ryan made her third start in a row Saturday at Pitt-Johnstown, which handed the Crimson Hawks a 2-0 defeat that dropped them to 2-3 in the conference and 3-3 overall.

She has two assists in six games with six shots, three on goal.

CO-ED GOLF

UNIVERSITY PARK — Senior Brandon Orsich (Clearfield) carded an 88 as Penn State DuBois finished seventh in the 11-team Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference Invitational on the Penn State Blue Course Monday, Sept. 23.

His score was second lowest for the Lions, whose total was 360, and tied for 28th place overall among the 65 players.

Freshman Hannah Hoover (Curwensville) posted a 112.

FOOTBALL

LOCK HAVEN — Senior linebacker Christian Rumery (Clearfield) saw action for Lock Haven in the Bald Eagles’ Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opener and Homecoming Game that East Stroudsburg spoiled by rolling to a 62-14 win in front of 905 fans at Hubert Jack Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The loss was their third in a row since a season-opening victory.

Rumery has registered two solo tackles and four assists.
