Chiefs Beat Bucks 16-0 With Three Big Rallies

HYDE — The Clearfield American Legion Post 6 baseball team batted around in two innings and posted another crooked number in a third rally to defeat Curwensville 16-0 in 4½ innings at the Bison Sports Complex Sunday evening for a three-game sweep of their season series.

The Chiefs strengthened their hold on second place in the Jefferson County League at 7-2 and positioned themselves for a home game in the championship tournament semifinals next week.

Eli Glass pitched the shutout for his third victory, striking out nine and allowing only three hits.

Every Chief contributed to a 17-hit attack on two of the Bucks’ three hurlers, while eight drove in runs and eight crossed home plate.

The hit and run totals were season highs.

Leading the way were Blake Prestash with two doubles and a single and Allan Myers with a double and two singles, the latter driving in three runs and also scoring four times.

Nate Barr also registered three RBIs on a very rare BSC inside-the-park home run.

He had two hits, as did Glass, who is riding a 13-game hitting streak, and Kyle Elensky and Morgen Billotte with pairs of RBI singles.

Three Curwensville errors helped Clearfield (9-3-1) jump out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning with Myers and Billotte delivering run-scoring hits.

That combination clicked for a sixth run off Hunter Hipps in the second as Billotte chased home Myers, who had beat out an infield single and stolen second base.

A two-run single by Myers was the key hit in the third frame as the Chiefs widened their lead to 10-0 off Cody Cox.

With the Mercy Rule already set up, Clearfield poured six more runs across the plate in the fourth with six hits, including Barr’s homer. Two Curwensville misplays made three runs unearned, increasing the total to seven for the game.

Zach Brewer had a double for the Post 505 Bucks.

The Chiefs will travel to Punxsutawney Monday for the 6 p.m. make-up of a twice-postponed JCL game.
