CURWENSVILLE — Hunter Dixon authored a sparkling one-hitter while Seth Bumbarger and Allan Myers drove in two runs apiece to lead the Clearfield American Legion Post 6 baseball team past Curwensville 7-2 at Sherman Field Tuesday evening.
Dixon needed only 79 pitches for his third complete-game win in four decisions, racking up nine strikeouts in the Jefferson County League game.
The left-hander fired first-pitch strikes to 21 of the 24 Bucks he faced and went to a three-ball count just once.
That was against leadoff batter Jake Mullins, who drew the lone walk allowed by Dixon.
Hunter Hipps followed by slicing a double down the left field line, and Curwensville grabbed a quick 2-0 lead on RBI groundouts by Jake McCracken and Matt Brown.
Dixon was in complete command after that as the Bucks had only two more baserunners, Jake Stile reaching on an error in the third inning and Spencer Hoover getting hit by a pitch before being erased on a double play in the fifth.
Two errors were costly for the hosts, with of six of Clearfield’s runs going into the unearned column.
The Chiefs scored four runs off Bucks starter Hipps in the third inning after loading the bases on a walk, Nate Barr’s infield single and an error on Hayden Williams’ bunt.
Seth Bumbarger singled to tie the score, Myers drove in the winning run with a groundout and Nolan Barr contributed an RBI single.
Hipps gave up seven hits, two walks and one unearned run in his four-inning stint.
Christian Bakaysa worked the last three innings for Curwensville, surrendering six hits, one walk and the trio of unearned runs in the last inning, when Myers and Blake Prestash had RBI singles and Matt Bailor plated the other run on a groundout.
Nate Barr collected three of Clearfield 13 hits, with Bumbarger, Nolan Barr and Eli Glass registering two apiece.
The Chiefs, 6-2-1 with a 4-1 JCL record, will meet Marion Center for the first time Thursday in a 6 p.m. home game.
Manager Sid Lansberry announced that Monday’s rainout at Punxsutawney has been rescheduled for Friday, June 28, at 8 p.m.
