MARTINSBURG — Five unearned runs were the difference as Central defeated the visiting Clearfield Area High School softball team 6-2 in Mountain League action Tuesday.
Karly Rumsky had two of the five hits surrendered by winning pitcher Dylan Claycomb, who struck out seven, walked one and hit one.
The Lady Bison scored both of their runs in the fourth inning.
After Rumsky led off with a hit, Emma Hipps bounced into a forceout, Olivia Bender singled and Lauren Ressler grounded out to get the Lady Bison on the board. Alexis Benton, the courtesy runner for Bender, later crossed the plate on a passed ball.
Hipps started for Clearfield (8-8, 6-7 ML) and had two strikeouts while allowing one hit and two walks in one inning.
Bender relieved and gave up seven hits but only one earned run, in five innings. She had three strikeouts and two walks in her second pitching appearance.
Kyra Mollura, who moved behind the plate from shortstop when Clearfield made the pitching change, threw out three of the six Lady Dragons on steal attempts.
Claycomb and Maddie Metzler led Central (11-6, 7-6 ML) with two singles and two RBIs apiece.
The Lady Dragons, who lost 4-1 at Clearfield April 16, struck for four runs in the second inning.
The Lady Bison will host Hollidaysburg Wednesday in a non-league game, their third in as many days.
