Elk County Catholic Hangs On To Defeat Lady Tide 10-8

CURWENSVILLE – After digging themselves a huge hole, the Curwensville Lady Tide got serious about its home game Monday against visiting Elk County Catholic (ECC). Unfortunately the comeback attempt failed and ECC hung on for a 10-8 win.

The Lady Tide trailed after four and half innings to the Lady Crusaders by an 8-0 score before they rallied for seven runs in the bottom half of the fifth.

Curwensville, batting around in the fifth, smacked out seven hits, with one being a double by Mackenzie Wall that drove in two Lady Tide.

Each team picked up a run in the sixth frame, still keeping the Lady Crusaders up by just one run 9-8.

A big insurance run by ECC gave the visitors from St. Marys a two run margin, 10-8, with Curwensville having one more at bat.

However, it wouldn’t be in the cards for Curwensville to pull out the comeback as it lost for the fourth straight time, dropping its record to 11-5 on the 2019 season.

Curwensville may have out hit the Lady Crusaders 14-9, but the Lady Tide committed four errors while issuing seven bases on balls and hitting two batters.

One Lady Tide, sophomore shortstop Abby Pentz, had a monstrous day at the plate going five for five (all singles) and scoring two runs.

Lauren Tozer had three hits for Curwensville, one a double, and Logan Sheeder picked up two base hits with one of those also being a double.

Elk County Catholic had two hits each from Sady VanAlstine, Elle Fledderman, Rosina Nero and Maddie Taylor.

Fledderman had the only extra base hits for the Lady Crusaders with two doubles.

In early April the Lady Tide defeated ECC in St. Marys by a 12-5 score.

Curwensville makes the long trip to Kane on Tuesday with a 4:15 pm start against the Lady Wolves. Back on April 11 the Lady Tide blanked Kane 15-0 in Curwensville.
