CURWENSVILLE – Having beaten the Curwensville Lady Tide softball team 16-1 in the season opener on March 26, the Dubois Central Catholic (DCC) Lady Cardinals did it again on Tuesday afternoon with a 12-2 victory on the Lady Tide’s home field.
The loss ended the Curwensville winning streak at nine straight, which now gives the Lady Tide an overall record of 11-2 on the 2019 season.
Curwensville has been awarded a forfeit of the first game with DCC due to the fact that the Lady Cardinals had used an ineligible player in that game. DCC also forfeited eight other games due to the use of the ineligible player.
The Lady Tide started out toe to toe with DCC and took a 2-0 lead after the first two innings with two runs in the bottom half of the second frame.
Curwensville picked up its two runs on a triple by Joslynne Freyer, who then scored on a single from Lauren Tozer.
Mackenzie Wall then smacked a double and Tozer would later score on a sacrifice fly to right field by Taylor Luzier.
Although the Lady Tide had six hits on the day they couldn’t muster any more runs as two Lady Cardinal pitchers, Ashley Wruble and Morgan Tyler, struck out seven Curwensville hitters.
DuBois Central Catholic got the offense rolling in the fourth inning, picking up six runs while adding two more in the fifth and another four in the top of the sixth.
The game ended under the 10 run mercy rule after six innings of action.
DCC picked up three hits each from Avery Sickeri and Jordan Kosko and two each from Wruble and Alyssa Bitner.
The Lady Cardinals got back to back home runs in the top of the fourth inning as Maia Cogley had a two run shot which was followed by a solo blast from Shayleigh Gulvas.
Curwensville travels to Flinton on Wednesday to battle Glendale in a game that starts at 4:30 pm.
