Rovers Double Up Visiting Golden Tide, 2-1

BROCKWAY — The final stop on the month-long road trip for the Curwensville Golden Tide made its final location in Brockway to take on the Rovers on Thursday afternoon.  The teams met back on March 28, with the Tide besting the Rovers on that afternoon.

Just like the last game between these two, the home squad won, as Brockway came through in a low-scoring 2-1 contest.

Brockway put Tino Inzana on the hill to start the game, and he would put on an excellent performance to earn his first win of the season.  Inzana would stay on the mound for the entire game, and gave up only six hits, and struck out nine in a spectacular afternoon.

It was the Rover offense that got things going in the bottom of the second inning to open the scoring.  Two outs were posted when Hunter Allenbaugh walked to first, then stole second.  Ben Glasl then took a 1-2 pitch deep to right field, and Allenbaugh rounded the bases to record the first run of the game, while Glasl got credit for the RBI-single.

Starting Tide pitcher Christian Bakaysa got out of the inning when he struck out Zane Puhala, but the deficit was in place.

Two innings later, Matthew Holt then came home for an unearned run thanks to a sacrifice fly by Glasl to put the gap at 2-0.

Bakaysa was taken out after that run, and one out on the board, as he would earn the loss with three and a third innings on the hill.  He would get credited for the loss on the afternoon, dropping his season record to 1-4.

Curwensville got one run back in the top of the fifth inning, as Avery Francisco again showed his power at the plate when he blasted an RBI-double to deep center field that brought in Jake Mullins.

In the last inning, the Tide had one last opportunity to tie the game, as Keegan Wilson singled to center field, then Cole Bressler came in as a courtesy runner.  Chase Graham then hit a 1-1 pitch back to Inzana for the fielder’s choice at first, but Bressler moved to second, hoping for an opportunity to make it home.  Unfortunately, Noah Von Gunden and Mullins each struck out to end the game, leaving Bressler stranded on the diamond, the seventh runner left on base in the game for Curwensville.

After so much time away from home, the Tide (3-10) will get a break from not just being on the road, but also from the diamond.

The next game for Curwensville is next Friday, as they will play host to the Black Knights of Moshannon Valley.  First pitch will be at 4:15 p.m.
