SPRING MILLS — Penns Valley rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to hand the Clearfield Area High School softball team a heart-breaking 4-3 loss in Mountain League action Tuesday.
One out after Lydia Collison singled and Kaylah Thompson reached on an error, Kailen Winkelblech singled to right field to tie the game and Avelyn Van Heyst followed with an RBI single for the walk-off win.
The visiting Lady Bison had gone ahead with all of their runs in the sixth inning.
Kendra Bumgardner was cruising along, retiring 12 Lady Bison in a row before Karly Rumsky broke the string by singling to center field.
Kylee Hertlein doubled to left center, and both runners scored on Emma Hipps’ double to center.
One out later, Lauren Ressler came through with a double to center for the go-ahead run.
Collison then relieved Bumgardner and gave up a single to Kyra Mollura but wiggled out of the jam when Ressler was out at the plate on a fielder’s choice and Casey English grounded out.
Collison earned the win by setting down the Lady Bison in order in the seventh and then igniting the Lady Ram comeback.
Rumsky and Hipps had two hits apiece for Clearfield (2-3, 1-3 ML).
Hipps wound up with the loss despite registering 11 strikeouts and allowing just two earned runs. She walked three and gave up nine hits.
Winkelblech collected three hits and drove in two runs for Penns Valley (4-4, 2-3 ML), while Thompson had two hits and scored two runs.
The Lady Bison will host Huntingdon in a 4:30 p.m. makeup game Wednesday.
