Lady Bison’s Ryan Accorded All-ML First Team Laurels

TYRONE — Clearfield Area High School senior Alayna Ryan was rewarded for a third consecutive outstanding season by becoming the first Lady Bison to be named to the All-Mountain League First Team.

Selections by the head coaches were released at the annual winter banquet in the Tyrone Area High School Monday night.

Ryan, who received second team laurels as a sophomore and junior, led the Lady Bison in scoring for the third year in a row with 472 points against defenses that focused on her in every game, recording at least 25 in 11 games as her 20.5 average ranking was third in District 9.

She poured in 291 points against league opponents for a 20.8 average.

Ryan ended her four-year, 91-game career with 1,165 points, which landed her in fourth place on Clearfield’s all-time scoring list.

The 5-8 playmaker also topped the 9-14 Lady Bison in steals with 133 and assists with 87 and was second in rebounds with 145.

Philipsburg-Osceola senior Halle Herrington was tabbed as the Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row.

The 5-4 point guard, a first-team choice as a sophomore, closed her brilliant career with 2,331 points, breaking a 30-year-old record for Centre County schools.

Repeating as first teamers were 5-8 senior Sydney Shaw of Tyrone and 5-5 junior Hannah Montminy of Penns Valley. Shaw also was on the 2016-17 second team.

Kylie Metzger, a 6-0 Central junior, and Isabella Culver, a 5-7 Penns Valley junior, round out the first unit. They were on the second team and honorable mention, respectively, last season.

The second team is comprised of 5-9 sophomore Maddie Tice of Bellefonte, 5-4 junior Kynnedy Miller and 5-7 junior Kait McElroy of Huntingdon and 5-5 freshman Stephanie Ramsey and 5-6 freshman Jaida Parker of Tyrone.

The 2018-19 final standings:

Penns Valley 13-1, Tyrone 12-2, Huntingdon9-5, Central 7-7, Bellefonte 6-18, Clearfield 4-10, Philipsburg-Osceola 4-10, Bald Eagle Area 1-13.
