Tyrone Takes Advantage Of Sluggish Bison Offense in 52-34 Victory

TYRONE – A two point second quarter by the Clearfield boys basketball team was all it took for Tyrone to take control of Tuesday night’s contest and defeat the Bison for the second time this season, 52-34, on the home floor of the Golden Eagles in Mountain League action.

The Golden Eagles won earlier this season, in December, at Clearfield 50-42. This second loss to Tyrone dropped the Bison back to the .500 mark on the season at 9-9.

Clearfield stayed with the Eagles throughout the first quarter and actually had a 10-9 edge before Tyrone ended the first on a 5-0 run to take a 14-10 lead into the second .

The Golden Eagles began the second stanza with an 8-0 run before Clearfield scored its only basket of the quarter, a Karson Rumsky two-pointer, with 1:23 before the intermission.

After the first 16 minutes of play Tyrone held a 24-14 margin going into the break.

The squads played an even third period with Clearfield shaving just one point off of the Tyrone lead by winning the period 14-13. But still, the Golden Eagles had a comfortable 36-25 edge with one quarter left.

Now the Bison did score nine points over the last eight minutes, but they didn’t get its first points of the quarter until 2:08 was left in the game on a basket by Rumsky, who happened to score all of those nine points.

Rumsky lead all scorers on the night with 19 points, while Damon Gripp had 14 for Tyrone with teammate Blaine Hoover hitting for 12 tallies.

Tyrone easily won the junior varsity game, defeating the Bison 50-29.
