CURWENSVILLE – Coming into Patton Hall at Curwensville High School Friday night the Kane girls basketball team continued its sizzling streak, winning 10 of its last 11 games in defeating Curwensville 53-34.
The victory for the Lady Wolves runs their record to 11-3 on the year while the Lady Tide dropped to 3-9.
One of the leading scorers in District 9 girls basketball, senior Ella Marconi, took over in the second and third quarters, scoring 18 of her game 26 points for the Wolves. Marconi entered the game with an approximate 23 points per game average.
Curwensville did all it could to hang in the game with its leading scorer Madison Weber sitting out the first three plus minutes due to illness.
After the first quarter Kane held a somewhat unimpressive 14-6 edge before getting the offense rolling in the two middle periods where it outscored the Lady Tide by a total of 30-16.
Curwensville head coach Bob Desmett spoke about his team’s start, saying “It’s not an excuse, but we looked tired out there at times tonight since this was our fourth game of this week. But again, that’s not an excuse because Kane is a very good, quality basketball team.”
Not only was it Curwensville’s fourth game in the last five nights, but also it’s sixth game in the last 10 days.
Desmett followed with, “I think maybe if we could have got it going early in the first part of the game we may have been able to shake them (Kane) up a little. Our girls don’t quit though, they keep plugging away and moving on.”
Although ill, Weber did pace the Lady Tide offense with 15 points.
Emily Bucheit helped the Lady Wolves effort with 11 tallies.
Kane also won the junior varsity game by a score of 34-23.
Curwensville is home on Tuesday to play Ridgway for its next game, with JVs starting at 6 pm and the varsity to immediately follow.
The Lady Elkers beat the Lady Tide earlier this season at Ridgway 50-38.
