MARTINSBURG – Taking the long road trip to Central High School in Martinsburg and coming home with the victory is pretty sweet stuff for the Clearfield Lady Bison basketball team.
And that’s exactly what happened Friday night as Clearfield picked up a big Mountain League win over the Lady Dragons 54-37.
After the win Clearfield coach Joey Castagnolo was feeling pretty good with his squad playing the role of the spoiler, saying, “I am proud of my kids. It was their (Central) home opener on their new floor and it was really nice to win in a tough environment.”
Clearfield took control of the game with a 19-6 second quarter to lead at the break 28-16.
It was a fairly even second half, with the Lady Bison gaining a one tally edge over the final two quarters, 26-25, to break a two game losing streak and up its record to 5-6 on the season.
Senior Alayna Ryan had another monster game for Clearfield with 28 points followed by Megan Durandetta with 12 on four three pointers..
Maddi Metzler led the Lady Dragons with 13 points.
Central defeated Clearfield in the junior varsity battle 35-23. Lauryn Kitchen scored nine points for the Lady Bison.
The Lady Bison are home for its next game, on Monday, against the Lady Beavers of DuBois. JV action begins at 6 pm with the varsity to immediately follow.
