Ridgway – The Curwensville Golden Tide wrestlers made the trip to Ridgway on Saturday and wrestled five matches, ending up 2-3 overall.
Curwensville won matches against Sheffield by criteria H 37-36 and Ridgway 42-18. The wins were led by senior Golden Tide wrestler Blake Passarelli (5-1), who went 4-1 on the day and racked up four pins as well. Passarelli’s sole loss came from Titusville’s Hunter Thompson, who bested him by a 9-4 decision.
Curwensville lost matches to Titusville, Johnsonburg and Greenville. Curwensville sophomore Jake McCracken (4-2) was the sole Golden Tide wrestler to win in their match against Titusville. He bested Levi Nosko by an 8-1 decision. McCracken was 3-2 on the day and picked up one fall for Curwensville.
Freshman Jacob Carfley (4-2) also went 3-2 at 106 pounds, receiving a forfeit, decision and a pin. His teammate Spencer Hoover bounced between 113 and 120 where he went 2-3.
The middle weight wrestlers for Curwensville also battled all day, and junior Adam Straw, Duane Trade and senior Cole Bressler are all 3-3 this season. Together they accounted for five falls at the duals.
Curwensville will return to the mat Thursday when they wrestle Ridgway again at home.
