HYDE – The Clearfield High School boys basketball squad upped its early 2018-19 season record to 3-0 Wednesday night with a 73-48 rout of Bald Eagle Area in Mountain league action, the first league game for both teams.

The Bison started out slowly early in the first eight minutes but picked up its tempo to take a 12-9 edge after the first.

Bald Eagle started the second frame with a 6-0 run before Clearfield took a 31-22 lead by outscoring the Eagles in the second quarter 19-13.

The second quarter fuel for Clearfield came from sophomore Karson Rumsky with eight points and Cade Walker adding seven.

On the night both Walker and Rumsky poured in 23 points, with Rumsky connecting on five three pointers.

With a somewhat slow start Clearfield head coach Nate Glunt put the blame directly on his shoulders, saying, “I need to better prepare our team to play better against the zone. That start was all my fault. But we answered and I thought we did a good job the rest of the way.”

The Bison continued to pull away in the second half, leading by 14 points, 36-22 with 6:40 to play in the third and then at the 1:40 point of the third, upping its margin to 60-40 before picking up the 25-point win.

Clearfield had a 42-26 second half edge against the visiting Eagles.

Keagan Hess, a senior for Clearfield, had another good all around game scoring 11 points.

Bald Eagle Area was led by Jaden Jones with 20 tallies and another 15 from Andrew Bucha.

In the junior varsity game Clearfield defeated Bald Eagle Area by a score of 42-17 with Kandyn Hudson scoring eight points for the Bison.

Glunt then talked about the style of play from his squad, commenting, I told our guys to drive it to the hoop, shoot it or pass it and not to hold it. When we started to play at a faster tempo that was a big help to us.”

The Bison host another Mountain League home game on Friday against the Bearcats of Huntingdon with junior varsity tipping off at 6 pm and the varsity battle to immediately follow.
