The 651 Homecoming Day fans who braved rain, high winds and cold temperatures at Alumni Stadium saw Herrington put the Engineers ahead with a 41-yarder, matching his career best, and add a 31-yarder with 1:32 left.
Both were made with the wind, which gusted at 41 miles per hour, at his back.
He also was true on a PAT try that made him 27-for-27 in that department to go with nine field goals for a total of 54 points which rank No. 1 in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference.
Punting into the wind proved very difficult as Herrington averaged only 12.7 yards for six kicks. With the wind at his back, he got off a 54-yarder and a 40-yarder that hiked his average to 21.3.
His season average is 34.4 yards for 43 punts.
On Monday, Herrington was named NEWMAC Special Teams Athlete of the Week for the sixth time in his career as well as Noontime Sports D3 Football Stars of Week Nine by the sports blog that covers New England sports on all levels.

EDWARDSVILLE — Senior Brad Stubbs (Curwensville) was the starting center and junior Nate Lash (Clearfield) also saw action on the Lycoming offensive line in a 14-7 loss to host Wilkes at rain-soaked Schmidt Stadium Saturday.
The Warriors were held to just 186 yards, including a net of 24 on the ground, in tumbling to 3-3 in the Middle Atlantic Conference and 4-4 overall.

MEN’S SWIMMING
NEW WILMINGTON — Freshman Chase Bietz (Clearfield) was a triplewinner for visiting Penn State Behrend in a 160-134 non-conference loss to Westminster Saturday.
Bietz swept the breaststroke races, touching first in the 100 in 59.33 seconds and the 200 in 22:10.84, boosting his win total to seven in individual events.
He got the Lion ‘A’ 200 freestyle relay foursome off to a 22.38 start on their way to a victory in 1:29.82.
Bietz also recorded a 54.20 breaststroke leg for the ‘A’ 200 medley relay team that finished second in 1:40.18.

ERIE — Sophomores Hayden Steiner (Clearfield) and Tate Swanson (Clearfield) were point-getters for Clarion in a 161-80 road loss to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponent Gannon in the Carneval Athletic Pavilion Pool Friday night.
Steiner placed fifth in the 200 freestyle in 1:52.25 and the 100 butterfly in a personal-best 57.42 seconds in addition to helping the Golden Eagle ‘A’ 200 free relay quartet to second place in 1:28 with a 22.17 third split.
Swanson lowered his season marks to 22.99 in the 50 free for fifth place and 50.72 om the 100 free for sixth place. He also anchored the ‘B’ 200 free relay team with a 22.38 split that stopped the clock at 1:33.32.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Freshman goalkeeper Madi Jones (Clearfield) and Dana DiCamillo combined on a 7-0 shutout, their fourth, as Penn State Erie Behrend breezed past host D’Youville early last week to cap its third consecutive undefeated regular season in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
Jones, who owns six complete-game shutouts, had to make only one save in her 76.31 minutes of action that extended her scoreless streak to 548.86 minutes over the last seven games.
Her goals against average dipped to 0.85. She has registered 41 saves on 55 shots in 1,476.24 minutes.
The Lions (11-6) outscored their nine AMCC opponents 40-2 and will take a six-game winning streak into their championship tournament semifinal Wednesday against No. 5 seed Penn State Altoona, which ousted No. 4 Pitt-Greensburg 3-1 Saturday.
No. 2 Mount Aloysius hosts No. 3 D’Youville in the other semi, with the title game set for Saturday at the home field of the higher seed.
