Lady Tide Beaten By Elk County Catholic 11-1

ST. MARY’S – Another tough road trip for the Curwensville girls softball squad on Tuesday afternoon which turned into an 11-1 loss to Elk County Catholic (ECC).

With the win the Lady Crusaders sweep the two game regular season series. ECC beat Curwensville in their first meeting in Curwensville, 9-7.

The Lady Tide were actually in the game, down just 2-1, until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Lady Crusaders exploded for six runs to extend its lead to 8-1 after five innings.

With three more runs in the bottom of the sixth frame the game ended when the 10-run mercy rule came into effect.

Sabrina Spencer had two hits for the Lady Tide while catcher Bailey Bloom had a double.

Four Lady Crusaders had two hits apiece – Jenna Weisner, Brandy Clyde, Reina Nero and Maggie Dinsmore.

Clyde, (solo in first inning), and Weisner, (solo in sixth) homered while Sadie Val Alstien added a triple and three RBI’s on the day.

The Lady Tide have now played seven games over the past nine days.

Curwensville (6-6) will play in DuBois on Wednesday as they meet up with the Lady Cardinals of DuBois Central Catholic in a game that starts at 4:15 pm.
