CURWENSVILLE – With a 14-4 victory on Tuesday the Curwensville girls softball team went above .500 on the 2018 season with a 4-3 record.
The win was at the expense of the Brockway Lady Rovers whom Curwensville blanked, in Brockway, 14-0 back on April 14.
The loss keeps the Lady Rovers winless on the year at 0-6.
Game conditions were less than ideal at the Lady Tide venue as a steady rain fell throughout the contest.
Curwensville jumped out to a 4-0 start in the bottom of the first inning while picking up just one hit but receiving two walks and watching the Rovers commit two errors.
The Lady Tide, who won the game due to the 10 run mercy rule in the bottom half of the sixth inning, gathered 10 walks on the day and benefited from six Brockway errors.
Brockway would score a run in the second and another in the third to trail just 4-2 going into the bottom of the third frame.
Then the Lady Tide took over, scoring six tallies to gain a 10-2 edge after three.
Ally Hess and Sabrina Spencer had the lone hits, singles, in the third for Curwensville while Brockway issued five base on balls that enabled the Tide to pull away.
Hess scored the run for Curwensville in the bottom of the sixth that ended the game with the 10 run margin.
Abby Pentz picked up the RBI with a single to left field that ended the soggy affair.
Pentz and Bailey Bloom each had two hits with Pentz getting the lone extra base hit for the Lady Tide, a double in the second inning.
The Lady Rovers had Leah Lindenmuth and Emma Caballine with two hits apiece.
Brockway had two doubles, one each from Caballine and Morgan Lindenmuth.
The Lady Tide will travel on Thursday in a Moshannon Valley League game against Moshannon Valley that starts at 4 pm.
