Bison’s Glass Fans 10 Rams in Three-Hit Shutout

SPRING MILLS — Eli Glass fashioned a scintillating mound performance and Jake Sorbera delivered the game-winning hit as Clearfield defeated host Penns Valley 3-0 in Mountain League schoolboy baseball action Friday afternoon.

Glass fired a three-hitter against a Ram team with a .333 batting average and an average of almost five runs per outing.

The junior right-hander struck out 10, half of them on called third strikes, without issuing a walk in his second win.

Glass did hit three Rams, two in the second inning, but he worked out of his toughest situation of the game with a pickoff at first base and two strikeouts that stranded Logan Snyder at second base.

The only other Penns Valley runner to touch second was Cole Breon and a steal after singling with one out in the first inning. He attempted to steal third base, too, but was thrown out by Bison catcher Nate Barr.

Backed by flawless defense, Glass went on to set down 15 of the 18 batters he faced over the last five innings.

The Bison got to Thomas Kauffman for half of their six hits in the top of the second, with Sorbera driving in Seth Bumbarger and Barr for all the runs Glass would need. Caullin Reed later plated Sorbera with a groundout.

Barr and Sorbera had two singles apiece as Clearfield improved to 2-1, good for a third-place tie in the league.

Kauffman pitched into the sixth inning for Penns Valley (2-3-1, 0-3), and Dylan Treaster finished up with two hitless, scoreless innings.

The Bison will close the four-game week with a trip to Tyrone Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. make-up contest.

Their road game with Central that has been called off three times now is scheduled for Saturday, April 28, at 1 p.m. at Martinsburg, athletic director Robert Gearhart announced Thursday.
