TYRONE — Clearfield Area High School junior Alayna Ryan is a repeater on the second unit of the 2017-18 All-Mountain League Girls Basketball Team selected by the head coaches and announced at the winter sports banquet in the Tyrone Area High School Monday night.
The 5-6 playmaker and defensive standout led the 8-15 Lady Bison in scoring for the second year in a row with 333 points, matching her sophomore season total and ranking 21st in District 9. Her 14.5 average was No. 19 among all district teams.
Ryan was a double-figure scorer in 20 games with a high of 23 at Philipsburg-Osceola Feb. 9.
She racked up 140 assists in her role as point guard and also pulled down 113 rebounds.
Ryan excelled at the point of the Bison’s 1-3-1 matchup zone, pressuring opposing guards for 79 steals.
She also helped out inside on defense with 65 of her rebounds and 18 blocks.
Most Valuable Player laurels went to Philipsburg-Osceola junior Halle Herrington, who was a first-team selection last season.
The first team features the only three seniors to be honored, Cassie Mock of Central, Emily Lehman of Tyrone and Maddie Gearhart of Huntingdon. Mock made the second team the last two years, while Gearhart was a second teamer last season and honorable mention as a sophomore.
Rounding out the first unit are Tyrone junior Sydney Shaw, up from the second team in 2016-17, and Penns Valley sophomore Hannah Montminy.
Landing on the second team with Ryan were junior Maddi Metzler and sophomores Kylie Metzger and Erin Brumbaugh of Central and junior Jordan Andrus of Penns Valley.
Honorable mention was accorded junior Isabella Culver of Penns Valley.
