Lady Tide Lose 48-25 at Brockway in Season Finale

BROCKWAY — Unable to crack double figures in any quarter for the second game in a row, the Curwensville Area High School girls basketball team was tagged with a season-ending 48-25 loss by Brockway Wednesday night.

Sabrina Spencer and Madi Weber scored 11 points apiece for the Lady Tide, who finished 4-18.

The Lady Rovers completed the Allegheny Mountain League South Division sweep by building leads of 17-7 after one quarter, 27-9 by halftime and 42-18 after three quarters. They won 53-36 at Curwensville on Jan. 26.

Brockway (10-12) was led by Leah Lindemuth with 16 points and Kaitlyn Morelli and Morgan Lindemuth with 14 each.

Leah Lindemuth, who became the fourth member of the Lady Rover 1,000-Point Club in late January, also had 11 rebounds for her 14th double-double of the season, while Morelli and Morgan made seven and six steals, respectively, according to statistics reported to D9Sports.com.

Spencer and Madison Olson played their final game for the Lady Tide. Mikayla Warren, the other senior, had her career end in mid-January because of an ankle injury.

Weber, whose 17.3 average for 381 points will land her in or near the District 9 Top 10, will go into her senior season needing 152 points to become the fifth Curwensville girl to reach the 1,000 plateau for their career.

“Overall, there were times where we’ve seen good things, and there’s times we’ve seen bad things,” Lady Tide first-year coach Bob Desmett said summing up the season. “Not to make excuses, but four (head) coaches in four years is tough on anybody at any level.”

Desmett and assistants Jim Hoyt, Savannah Strickland and Heather Olson didn’t come aboard until just before preseason practice began, which meant the Lady Tide had no structured program during the summer and fall, something the admittedly inexperienced coach plans to change.

“We’re gonna work hard during the summer, and we’re gonna try to turn this thing around.”
