Mitskavich and Yarus Claim Gold Pin tournament Titles

DUBOIS — DuBois youth bowlers Melia Mitskavich and Layton Yarus claimed the prestigous Pa Youth Gold Pin Club’s Winter classic Bowling titles Sunday afternoon, January 21, at DuBois lanes.

After qualifying seventh in the three game qualifier, Mitskavich proceeded to work her way into the title match by defeating Kristin Womeldorf, the number two seed, from Apollo, PA  and then defeating Megrah Suhan from Brookville in the semi final match.

The championship match was a classic title match with Mitskavich coming on strong in the last two frames to close out Alex Nelson of Brookville155- 152 to win the title.

Suhan defeated Morrigan Decker of Brockway by a score of 184 to 126 to claim third place.

Yarus began his climb to the top by finishing sixth in the qualifying round then defeated number three seed Kadin Danch of DuBois to advance to the semi final match where he pulled out a close match with Kevin Streightif, the number two seed from Hawk Run 182-179 to advance to the title match against Antonio Willar, last spring’s tournament winner who is also from DuBois

The crowd was treated to a tight match between two former tournament winners with Yarus prevailing 236-201.

Trenten Lopez then defeated Streightiff to take home third place.

Lopez, Willar, Danch, Decker and the girls number four qualifier, newcomer Kelsie Zanin, also earned a spot in the Junior Gold National Championship tournament to be held this summer in Dallas, Texas .

The spring tournament will be held in Clearfield in late March or early April.
