West Branch Tops Lady Tide 37-19 On A Special Night

CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville girls basketball program held a memorial scholarship fundraiser for fallen former Lady Tide player Katrina Seaburn, who tragically was a victim of a domestic violence shooting in March of last year.

All proceeds from Wednesday night’s fundraiser at Curwensville’s Patton Hall will go to benefit the Katrina Seaburn Memorial Scholarship Fund.

And the amount raised was the best news of the evening as $2,262 was raised with that total expected to go higher when all proceeds are finalized.

The West Branch girls were the opposition in the Moshannon Valley League game as the Lady Warriors were looking for the season sweep after defeating Curwensville in the season opener 62-31 in Allport.

West Branch (3-7) did come up with the sweep with a 37-19 victory in a game that had a huge number of turnovers along with an enormous amount of jump ball situations.

In a low scoring first quarter Lady Tide senior Sabrina Spencer drained a three point shot with 40 seconds to go that gave Curwensville a 6-5 lead after one.

The Lady Warriors opened the second quarter with a 17-0 run that essentially put the game away as
they outscored Curwensville 19-2 in the second eight minutes.

After the break the Lady Tide didn’t do a whole lot better scoring, with just three points in the third quarter as West Branch added nine to its total to take a 33-11 edge into the final frame.

Curwensville took the final eight minutes by an 8-4 count and ended the game with just five field goals.

Lady Warrior senior Skylar Ceprish had 22 points to pace West Branch. Ceprish scored 28 points in the first game against Curwensville this year.

Madison Weber lead the Lady Tide with seven tallies.

In the Moshannon Valley League the Lady Tide are 1-3 while West Branch is over .500 at 3-2.

Afterwards, Curwensville head coach Bob Desmett said, “We aren’t giving up on this team. The girls work really hard and we will continue to have them work hard.”

Then Desmett added, “We did take a lot of good shots out there tonight, unfortunately we need them to start dropping.”

There was no junior varsity game.

The Tide (1-7) will be on the road for a Friday game against the Lady Rovers of Brockway with JV tipping off at 6 pm and the varsity to immediately follow.

This is a make-up game from the cancellation last Friday due to the severe weather.
