DUBOIS – The 2018 Scotts® Major League Baseball (MLB) Pitch, Hit and Run Local Competition is coming to DuBois on Sunday, May 6 at the City Park at the new Softball Challenger Field and Senior League Baseball Field. Both baseball and softball divisions will begin at 2 p.m.
Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run is a free, one-day event for boys and girls ages 7-14 years. Competitors compete in four age groups: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12 and 13/14. Age is determined as of July 17, 2018.
“MLB Pitch, Hit and Run is excited to announce the City of DuBois, Pa., as one of our local host sites for 2018”, said Kabir Faiz from Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run.
“The city will work hard to continue a tradition of providing youngsters in the area an opportunity to showcase their baseball skills in the Official Skills Competition of Major League Baseball.
“With over 650,000 youngsters competing in the program at the Local level, cities such as DuBois, Pa., are exemplifying that the next Big League Star could be in your community.”
Participants compete in either the Baseball Division or Softball Division and have the opportunity to advance through four levels of competition including Locals, Sectionals, Team Championships and the National Finals during MLB All-Star Week.
National finalists will receive an all-expense paid trip to MLB All-Star Week. Finalists will participate in an array of festivities upon arrival, including competing on-field prior to shagging fly balls during the Home Run Derby.
“The City of DuBois is excited to be selected for the MLB Pitch, Hit and Run local competition that will bring a lot of people to our great city,” said City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio.
“We have one of the finest ballparks in the entire area, if not the entire state. Hopefully, we can keep bringing in events like this for the youth of our area.”
“DuBois being chosen for the event is because we’re going out promoting the City of DuBois,” said Suplizio. “Number two, we have first-class facilities that help us.”
