DuBois Hangs On To Defeat Lady Bison 41-36

DUBOIS – Trailing into the first few minutes of the third quarter the DuBois girls basketball team took a 24-23 lead at the 5:42 point of the third stanza against the Lady Bison of Clearfield.

The Lady Beavers maintained the lead until the start of the fourth when the lead changed hands four times before DuBois put the game away at the free throw line to win 41-36.

It was freshman Megan Durandetta that propelled the Lady Bison to a 12-10 edge after the opening eight minutes of play by scoring eight points, which included two three-pointers.

Ashley Hallowell, the six foot DuBois senior, had a somewhat frustrating first period, going to the free throw line 10 times but making only three. In all, on the evening, Hallowell was seven of 16 from the line.

With the game tied at 12 early in the second period, Lady Bison senior Brooke Cline made good on a three-point attempt that gave Clearfield a 15-12 lead.

Clearfield maintained that lead the remainder of the second quarter and went into halftime ahead 21-18.

DuBois, as mentioned above, took the lead, 24-23, with 5:42 left in the third quarter on two free throws by Hallowell, who ended up with 10 of the 11 points that the Lady Beavers scored in the quarter.

After three quarters it was DuBois by one, 29-28.

Clearfield junior Alayna Ryan opened the final quarter hitting a shot from beyond the arc to put the Lady Bison in front 31-29.

Not to be outdone, Chelsea Desalve moments later hit her three-point shot that switched the lead back to DuBois 32-31.

With 5:03 to play in the battle, Nikki Brossard gave Clearfield its final edge on a two point basket at 33-32 but the Lady Beavers got a bucket from Hallowell just 11 seconds later that gave DuBois the lead for good, 34-33.

Desalve gave the Lady Beavers a five point margin with a basket with 1:10 to go in the contest.

Ryan, making her second trey of the quarter, with just 47 seconds to go, pulled Clearfield to within two
at 38-36.

DuBois ended Clearfield’s hope of a win by making three of four from the foul line to clinch the five point victory.

Clearfield was six of eight from the charity line and took no free throws in the second half of play.

Meanwhile, the Lady Beavers made 26 trips to the line, making good on 13 of them.
