MARTINSBURG — Once-beaten Central took command by outscoring the Clearfield Area High School girls basketball team 18-3 in the second quarter and went on to register a 46-30 victory in their Mountain League opener Wednesday night.
Alayna Ryan netted 12 points for the Lady Bison, who were limited to 12 field goals by the Lady Dragons’ pressure defense.
“It hard to believe, but they were quicker than us,” Clearfield coach Joey Castagnolo said.
He pointed out that the Lady Bison played the hosts on even terms except for the second period, when their lowest output of the season left them in a 29-12 hole at halftime.
Pacing the Lady Dragons to their third straight win were senior Cassie Mock, their lone returning starter, and 5-11 sophomore Kylie Metzger with 11 points apiece.
The Lady Bison (1-2) will make their home debut Friday night against Huntingdon.
Central also won the junior varsity game.
