Sandy Township Passes First Draft of 2018 Budget

DUBOIS – Sandy Township officials passed the first draft of the 2018 budget Monday night. It doesn’t include a tax increase.

Manager Dave Monella commented that he wasn’t happy with the current budget. However, he declined to elaborate any further.

Monella, along with other township officials, will continue to revise the budget until its final approval.

In other business, officials announced there will be a public hearing before the next regular township meeting. It will be held at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 20 to discuss Aqua PA installing a new water storage tank at Daxon Point Court in Treasure Lake.

A Memorandum of Understanding was approved between Sandy Township and the Sandy Township Volunteer Fire Department, members of the Northwest Central PA Task Force and Swift Water Team.   Under the MOU, Sandy Township will cover workman’s compensation for work performed within the township.

The supervisors also announced there would be a township meeting Dec. 4. The meeting was originally cancelled but has become necessary to address “pressing issues.”

The township also accepted and approved its 2016 audit. The report didn’t identify any deficiencies and it’s available to the public.

Under his report, Solicitor Greg Kruk said that Sandy Township’s ordinance to allow for an elder cottage is still in the works, and officials are ironing out some issues with the provided sample.

Officials plan to hold a workshop meeting with the county’s Area Agency on Aging representatives in the future.

The supervisors also tabled action on the new fee schedule for water and sewer usage.
