DUBOIS – DuBois Central Catholic will be hosting its 11th annual Veterans Day celebration Nov. 8, starting with sign-in of veterans at 8:20 a.m. in the school’s two main foyers.

The event gets under way at 8:30 a.m. with coffee and donuts and a patriotic program of music and song in the school’s cafeteria.

Afterward veterans will be escorted to the gymnasium and occupy seats of honor set up on the gym floor for the 9:15 a.m. liturgy.

Students, parents, faculty and staff will occupy the bleachers.  A formal Presenting of the Colors Ceremony by the DuBois Honor Guard will begin the ceremony.

The Veterans Mass will be honoring those in attendance as well as all military past and present.

DuBois Police Officer Lanny Prosper will conclude with a patriotic song prior to the Retiring of the Colors in the gym.

The celebration will conclude with the ‘traditional raising of the flag’ at the outdoor flagpole, complete with a 21-gun salute and taps.

On Nov. 9, both sections of fifth graders at DCC will be presenting a patriotic program for the residents of Christ the King Manor.

According to music instructor Joe Lesnick, the presentation will include readings and song sure to lift the spirits of the residents and staff at the manor.

This annual event is system-wide at DuBois Central Catholic, according to key organizers Michael Micknis, Tara Kramer, Becky Dutra, Renee Gressler, Jodi Stewart, Cheyenne Helman, Kristy Snyder, Barb Dettore, Kristy Erich, Jen Pisarcik, Joe Lesnick, Sarah Winslow and Emily Roy.

Teachers and staff on all levels from pre-school through high school are supporting this event in their classrooms, too.

“Any and all local veterans are invited to attend as DCC wishes to recognize their service to our country,” adds Micknis. Call 814-371-3060 to confirm your attendance.
