Curwensville Gets Bye As District 9 “A” Playoffs Get Underway Friday

CURWENSVILLE – The District 9 Class A football playoffs begin this Friday evening with two first round games while the top two seeds get a bye, advancing to next weekend’s semifinals.

Number one seed Curwensville (8-2) and number two seed Ridgway (7-3) get to rest a week before resuming action on the gridiron.

On Friday, Otto-Eldred, the four seed, will be at home against Redbank Valley who finished first in the KSAC Small School Division with a regular season record of 5-4.

Otto-Eldred won the North Division of the Allegheny Mountain League for the second straight year, posting a 6-4 record which included a 33-0 defeat to Kane in the AML title game last weekend.

The other first round contest has six seeded Coudersport (5-4) traveling to meet up with KSAC opponent Clarion-Limestone (6-4) who enters the tournament as the three seed.

The start time for both games is at 7 pm.

Curwensville will play the winner of the Otto-Eldred vs. Redbank Valley game while Ridgway will play either Coudersport or Clarion-Limestone in the semifinals.

The semifinals are set for either next Friday or Saturday, at neutral sites yet to be announced.

Under Golden Tide head coach Andy Evanko, Curwensville has made the District 9 playoffs in 17 of the last 18 seasons, starting in 2000.

Curwensville has won three District 9 Championships during that time period, 2000, 2004, 2010 and finished second in 2001 and 2006.
