Stewart Becomes District 9 All-Time District 9 Leading Rusher as Golden Tide Crush Port Allegany 56-13

PORT ALLEGANY – If it’s Friday the Curwensville Golden Tide must have been on another road trip. The third in four weeks to be exact.

The Tide didn’t disappoint the fans that religiously follow the squad, as Curwensville hammered the Gators of Port Allegany Friday night, 56-13, to up its record to 4-0 on the year.

It was a game were senior running back Nick Stewart tallied four touchdowns and became the all-time career rushing leader in District 9. Stewart ended his milestone night with 228 yards on 17 carries to run the record to 6,045 yards.

Curwensville now has the top three rushers in District 9 history as Stewart passed former Golden Tide standout running back Nick Sipes (5,963 career rushing yards) to become the rushing king of District 9 after passing another former Tide standout runner in Alex Holland (5,734 career rushing yards) last week against Sheffield.

The Gators scored the game’s first and last touchdowns, but unfortunately for Port Allegany the Golden Tide put 56 points on the board between those two Gator scores.

Treyton Stiles took the opening kickoff for Port Allegany 76 yards to the end zone and after the two point attempt failed the Gators (0-3 coming into the game) had a shocking 6-0 lead.

A lead that didn’t last very long at all as the Tide put up three tallies before the end of the first 12 minutes were completed.

With 10:50 to go in the first, Avery Francisco scored from four yards out with Bryce Timko hitting Stewart for the two point conversion giving the Tide the lead at 8-6.

Stewart scored the next two first quarter TD’s on a 10 yard run and 15 yard scamper. Madison Weber hit both extra points giving Curwensville a 22-6 edge after one.

There was just one score in the second quarter as Timko hit Francisco on a 17 yard toss with Weber good on the PAT as Curwensville went into the intermission up 29-6.

The third quarter was also all Tide as Stewart scored three more rushing touchdowns (70, 9 and 56 yards) with Weber perfect on two of three attempts.

On the 70 yard touchdown run at the 11:42 mark of the third is when Stewart became the all-time D-9 rushing leader. Nick Sipes was right there to present Stewart with the game ball.

Curwensville did have another third quarter TD as Timko tossed a four yard strike to Josh Terry. Weber hit the extra point finishing the evening making six out of seven PAT attempts. Tinko was 11-14 for 138 yards, with 74 of those yards to Terry.

The Gators scored the lone touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 56 yard pass from Jared Mahon to Stiles. Bryce Baker added the PAT.

It was the second straight week the Tide scored 56 points and have now outscored their opponents 198 to 29 on the season.

With the victory Curwensville is now 4-0 on the season having swept four Allegheny Mountain League (AML) foes to start the 2017 campaign.

The Tide will continue their northern fall travel tour as they hit the road for Kane to face the Wolves in an AML South Division game next Friday night.

Kane is also 4-0 on the season after demolishing Cameron County Friday night 63-0.

Kick-off is set for 7 pm and you can listen to the game, as always, on WOKW -FM, 102.9, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 pm.
