KARTHAUS – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is alerting area drivers to upcoming railroad work on Route 879 in Clearfield County.
Vorst Paving of Cloverdale, Ohio has been contracted by the RJ Corman Railroad to work Sept. 10-11 to remove, replace and pave the railroad crossing and surface on Route 879 in the village of Karthaus.
An official detour will be in place during the crossing work. Drivers will be directed to use Route 879, Route 1011 (Rolling Stone Road), Route 144 and Route 53 to get around the closure.
The detour is scheduled to be enforced Sept. 10-11, with the roadway re-opening by Sept. 12. Weather and work progress could change work plans.
Message boards are in place in the Karthaus area to alert drivers to the closure and detour.
Drivers should follow official detour signs, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up. PennDOT and the RJ Corman Railroad remind drivers to approach railroad crossings with caution and to “Always expect a train.”
