HYDE — DuBois right-hander Colin Read held the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post 6 baseball team to three hits in a 6-1 Jefferson County League victory at the Bison Sports Complex Thursday evening.
Read struck out nine Chiefs and walked none in the strong complete-game performance that left both teams 1-1.
The Chiefs broke up his shutout in the sixth inning when Harrison Peacock doubled home Jake Sorbera, who had reached on an error and moved to second base on a single by Allan Myers.
Ty Bender had the other hit, a double.
The visitors got to Bryce Timko for five hits and three runs in five innings. He fanned one, walked four and hit one.
Will Myers relieved and gave up two hits and three runs, one earned, in two innings.
Drew Bankovich had two doubles, Read chipped in two singles and Ryan Pasternak socked a two-run home run in the seventh inning for DuBois.
Clearfield’s game against Curwensville scheduled for Friday was postponed earlier because of Curwensville Area High School graduation ceremonies, so the Chiefs will be idle until hosting Curwensville Monday in a makeup of a June 4 postponement. They’ll be at home again Tuesday against Brookville.
