HYDE — It turns out the Clearfield Area High School baseball team’s 13 wins, one more than St. Marys, weren’t enough to earn the No. 1 seed for the District 9 Class AAAA Playoffs, according to Bison coach Sid Lansberry.
He said he had believed the five points for the extra win would give the Bison the edge in the District 9 power ratings system that also includes schedule points but underestimated the points St. Marys received for playing Williamsport (Class 6A) and Hollidaysburg (Class 5A) twice apiece in the Central Penn League.
As a result, the Flying Dutch wound up with 1.5 more power ratings points and the top seed for the four-team tourney that begins next week.
St. Marys (12-8) will host No. 4 seed Bradford (7-12) Tuesday and Clearfield (13-7) will welcome Punxsutawney (8-10) to the Bison Sports Complex Wednesday in 4:30 p.m. semifinal action.
The championship game date and time were not on the bracket shown on D9sports.com Friday after being released by Brookville athletic director Dave Osborne, the District 9 Baseball Committee chairman.
