ALTOONA — Two Clearfield Area High School softball pitchers were unable to even slow down the Altoona offense in Wednesday’s non-league game as the first five hitters in the Lady Lion lineup combined for 15 hits, 16 runs and 13 RBIs in a six-inning, 18-8 victory at the Logan Elementary School Field.
Most of the Lady Bison hits and RBIs also were produced by the top of the order.
No. 2 hitter Erica Hanes cracked two doubles for four RBIs and scored twice, leadoff batter Brooke Cline had two hits, one a double, and scored four runs, while Abby Fedder singled twice and Karly Rumsky added a run-scoring single in the No. 3 hole.
Hanes had the highlight blow, a three-run double in the fourth inning.
Altoona (10-9) put up crooked numbers in four innings, rolling to a 12-2 lead against Fedder after three and invoking the Mercy Rule with five runs off Hanes in the sixth.
Big guns for the Lady Lions were Caitlyn Palazzi with four hits, one a double, and two RBIs, Montana Feathers with a triple and two singles for four RBIs, Alexa Young with three singles and four RBIs and Lindsey Fasolo with three singles.
Alyson Adams, who had two hits and walked twice in the leadoff role, scored four runs, as did Palazzi and Feathers. Fasolo crossed the plate twice.
Alissa James and Jordyn Merritts added two singles apiece to the total.
Clearfield (3-16) will play its final game Thursday with Bradford visiting the Bison Sports Complex.
