PHILIPSBURG — The Clearfield Area High School softball team ran into a buzz saw Thursday afternoon as Philipsburg-Osceola hammered three home runs in the first two innings for a 7-0 cushion en route to a 10-0 Mercy Rule win at the Curtis Park diamond.
Madison Lucas, who had homered twice in the Lady Mounties’ big 7-6 Mountain League win over Bellefonte Wednesday, turned on the power again after Erica Hanes walked the first two batters she faced.
Her long ball to right gave Kam Harris all the runs she needed, but Kyle Thal added a solo blast with two outs in the first inning and Maggie Peck walloped a three-run homer over the left field fence in the second.
Harris notched the win with a four-inning stint, striking out seven and allowing three hits. Kylie Adams worked a 1-2-3 fifth to complete the shutout.
The Lady Bison’s lone threat came in the second inning as Aspen Bishop and Makeeli Redden singled and Karly Rumsky reached on an error to fill the sacks with two outs. Harris stranded them with a strikeout.
Rachel Simpson had three hits while Adams singled and doubled for the 13-3 Lady Mounties, who moved into a tie for first place in the league at 11-2.
The Lady Bison finished 1-13 in the league and fell to 2-15 overall.
They will play three non-league games next week, home against Hollidaysburg Monday and Bradford Thursday and at Altoona Wednesday in a game originally scheduled for Tuesday.
