BLOOMSBURG — Senior sprinter/jumper Jessica Shomo (Clearfield) ended her outstanding four-year career for Clarion by helping the Golden Eagle 4×100 relay team set a school record, 48.25 seconds, at the 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships in Robert B. Redman Stadium Saturday.
The foursome placed seventh to account for two of Clarion’s 19 points.
Shomo carried the baton for the second leg, teaming with sophomore Courtney Young, senior Courtney Corban and sophomore Amanda Batey to eclipse the mark of 48.58 seconds established in 2014.
Shomo and Corban were members of that quartet as well as the teams that slipped to third and fourth with times of 48.82 in 2015 and 49.03 in 2016.
Shomo finished 18th in the 100-meter dash in 12.53 seconds.
She departs with two of the school’s all-time best times for that sprint, 12.36 this year and 12.38 last spring.
Shomo is the Clarion outdoor record-holder for the long jump with her leap of 5.47 meters (17 feet, 11¼ inches) in 2016.
She also owns two Golden Eagle indoor records, 7.86 seconds for the 60-meter dash set earlier this year and 5.41 meters (17 feet, 9 inches) for the long jump set in 2015.
In addition, her freshman season triple jump of 10.18 meters (33 feet, 4¾ inches) ranks fourth on the all-time list.

EMMITSBURG, Md. — Sophomore Sarah Lash (Clearfield) placed sixth in the javelin event to earn three points for St. Francis at the 2017 Northeast Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Mount St. Mary’s Saturday and Sunday.
She launched her second-best throw of the season, 39.42 meters (129 feet, 4¼ inches), in the finals after finishing eighth among the 22 qualifiers in the preliminaries.
Lash placed 25th in the hammer throw with a toss of 29.23 meters (95-11).
The Red Flash accumulated 69 points to wind up sixth in the 10-team meet.

MEN’S GOLF
GREENVILLE — Junior golfer Jason Thorp (Curwensville) was named Thiel College Male Athlete of the Week after placing fourth in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Spring Championships April 28-29 to earn all-PAC Second Team laurels for the 2016-17 season.
Thorp posted rounds of 74 and 78 at the Cedarbrook Golf Course near Belle Vernon that, combined with back-to-back 79s in the PAC Fall Championships, gave him a 310 aggregate and eighth place overall.
