TYRONE – Clearfield senior pitcher Tommy Hazel made the most of his first start of 2017, coming out on top of Tyrone Tuesday, on the road, 3-1 in Mountain League play.
The Bison defeated the Golden Eagles earlier this season, April 25, 7-5 at the Bison Sports Complex.
Hazel gave up five hits over five innings, with one unearned run, to pick up his second win of the year.
Fellow senior Will Myers threw the final two frames, shutting down the Golden Eagles, while registering four strikeouts.
After five innings were played Clearfield trailed 1-0, but the top of the sixth inning is when the Bison offense decided to take things over, and they did, scoring three runs to get the road victory.
Thayne Morgan started things off with a single while Reese Wilson reached on an error by Tyrone giving the Bison runners at first and second with no outs.
An RBI single by Zane Morgan scored brother Thayne, tying the game at one each.
Hazel then followed with a double that scored Wilson and Zane Morgan that secured the mound win for him and the big “W” for Clearfield.
Clearfield is now 8-6 overall on the season and 5-6 in Mountain League action.
The Bison travel to Bradford on Wednesday to play the Owls in a make-up contest from Monday. Game time is 4:15 pm.
