Lady Warriors Dump Lady Tide 13-2 In Moshannon Valley League Play

CURWENSVILLE – The West Branch Lady Warrior softball team utilized five extra base hits on the way to a 13-2 victory over Curwensville Friday afternoon on the Lady Tide home field in a Moshannon Valley League (MVL) game.

The contest was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule coming into play.

The Lady Warriors jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top half of the third inning after being set down in order over the first two innings.

West Branch got singles from Ruthie Betts, Lizzy Scott, Mary Betts and Skylar Ceprish along with a double by Kayleigh MacTavish to pick up the four tallies that were actually enough to hold off the Lady Tide on the day.

Curwensville scored a run in the bottom of the third as Kayley Harnett hit a two out double to center field and would score on an RBI single by catcher Bailey Bloom moments later.

Elisea Reed and Julia Herring scored for the Lady Warriors in the top of the fourth with two outs that gave the visitors from Allport more of a cushion at 6-1.

The Lady Tide picked up a final run in the bottom of the fourth when Chloe Tubbs reached on an error then was brought home with two outs on a single by third baseman Hannah Dixon.

A nightmare top half of the fifth frame did the Lady Tide in as the defense was non-existent.

Curwensville committed five errors in the fifth, and six total for the game, as the Lady Warriors put the battle away with seven runs.

MacTavish, Reed and Scott each had a double to help fuel the outburst for West Branch that put the Lady Tide away.

On the day Scott had three hits, including a fourth inning triple, while MacTavish chipped in with those two doubles.

Losing pitcher Rachel LeGars did give up 13 runs, but it should be noted that only five were earned.

Charis Gallaher picked up the win for West Branch, scattering just five Lady Tide hits.

Curwensville is 5-7 overall and 1-2 in MVL play while West Branch moves to 8-5 and 2-1 in league action.

The Lady Tide play for the third straight day, Saturday, with a road game at Clearfield. Game time is scheduled for 11 am.
