HUNTINGDON — Huntingdon completed a sweep of back-to-back Mountain League games against the Clearfield Area High School softball team with a 14-1 Mercy Rule victory in 4½ innings Tuesday.
A pair of six-run outbursts gave hurler Catherine Miller the easy win as the Lady Bearcats, who had nipped the Lady Bison 7-6 at Clearfield Monday, upped their league record to 5-3.
Kate Lansberry drove in the Lady Bison’s lone run in the fourth inning with one of the five hits off Miller, who struck out three and walked one.
Miller aided her own cause with a three-run homer to deep left field that highlighted Huntingdon’s big fourth frame.
Clare Alexander paced the Lady Bearcats with three hits, including a two-run double in the second inning, while Natalee Shingler chipped in two singles.
Huntingdon solved two Clearfield hurlers for nine hits.
Starter Erica Hanes was the losing pitcher, working 1-2/3 innings and surrendering five hits, three walks and six earned runs. Abby Fedder was in the circle the last 2-1/3 innings and gave up four hits, two walks and three earned runs. They were charged with seven runs apiece.
The Lady Bison (0-10, 0-9 ML) will go to Bellefonte for another ML game Friday and then host Curwensville in a non-league makeup game Saturday at 11 a.m.
