PUNXSUTAWNEY — Kylee Lingenfelter extended her dominance of Clearfield Area High School softball teams to three games with a four-hitter to give undefeated Punxsutawney an 8-1 victory in a non-league duel of, now, District 9 Class AAAA rivals at Harry Noerr Field Monday afternoon.
The junior right-hander had surrendered only three hits in posting shutouts when the Lady Chucks and Lady Bison met in Class AAA playoffs the last two years, 3-0 with 14 strikeouts in the 2015 semifinals and 1-0 with 13 strikeouts in the 2016 championship game.
The Lady Bison did end her scoreless streak with a first-inning run on an infield single by Erica Hanes, a double down the right field line by Brooke Cline and a passed ball.
Lingenfelter proceeded to whiff the next seven batters she faced and added pairs of strikeouts in the fifth and seventh frames.
Punxsy (4-0) quickly got even on Morgan VanLeer’s double and two wild pitches in the bottom of the first and got to Hanes for three hits and three runs in the second. VanLeer broke the tie with an RBI groundout before Alli Ishman and Tessa Winebark delivered run-scoring hits.
Abby Fedder pitched the final four innings for Clearfield (1-3), allowing four hits and three runs, two earned.
Mia Lingenfelter and pinch-hitter Mya Phillips closed out the scoring with back-to-back RBI doubles in the sixth inning.
The Lady Bison will return to Mountain League action Tuesday with a home game against Bald Eagle Area.
