NHSCA Nationals runner-up Luke McGonigal

VIRGINIA BEACH — The Virginia Beach Convention Center was the site of the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) Wrestling Nationals on March 24-26.

There were over 3500 high school wrestlers from all over the country competing on 40 mats in one place!

PIAA silver medalist Luke McGonigal of Clearfield competed with 105 others, including 22 current or former state champions, in the 170 pound Junior Division.

McGonigal ran off six wins against wrestlers from New Hampshire, New York, Utah, Alabama, North Carolina, and Colorado to reach the finals.

There, he faced off with New York public school state champion Tyler Barnes, a North Carolina State verbal commit. Barnes used five takedowns to pull off 14-4 major decision over McGonigal.

PA won the team title amongst the freshman and sophomore divisions, was runner-up in the Junior Division, and was ninth in the Senior Division.
