BELLEFONTE — Interior defense was the key as the Clearfield Area High School girls basketball team turned the tables on Bellefonte and avenged last month’s three-point home loss with a 39-34 Mountain League victory Monday night.
Ally Lindstrom and Alayna Ryan fronted the Lady Bison offense with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Clearfield led all the way, going in front 10-6 after one quarter, 16-11 by intermission and 29-19 going into the final eight minutes.
“Tesa Miller, Niki Chew and Nikki Brossard shut down their inside game, and that was the difference,” Lady Bison coach Joey Castagnolo said. “They were trying to pound the ball inside like they did in the first game, but our interior defense was excellent.
“This was like a revenge game. They were ahead of us in the standings, too.”
Atoning for the 55-52 defeat by the Lady Raiders Dec. 19 pushed the Lady Bison’s record to 10-6 and above .500 in the ML at 5-4.
Mallorie Smith and Lauren Young each had 10 points for Bellefonte (7-8, 5-5 ML).
The Lady Bison head back down I-80 Wednesday for a makeup game against Penns Valley.
Miller had 12 points in the junior varsity game that Penns Valley won 36-20.
