ATHENS, Ohio — Freshman Claire Mikesell (Clearfield) turned in her best all-around performance with her first individual win and swimming on two victorious relay foursomes as Ohio swept Duquesne 170-78 and Xavier 160-97 in the Ohio Aquatic Center Saturday.

Mikesell lowered her 100-yard breaststroke record to 1:04.58, swam a 1:04.78 breaststroke split for the 400 medley relay quarter that won in 3:49.88 and a 46.19 second split for the 400 freestyle unit that triumphed in 3:30.96

She also picked up points for the 4-3 Bobcats with a third against both teams in the 100 free in 53.63.

MEN’S SWIMMING

NEW WILMINGTON — Sophomore Michael Spencer (Clearfield) was a doublewinner for Westminster as the Titans celebrated Senior Day with a 170-96 Presidents’ Athletic Conference win over Saint Vincent in the Westminster Natatorium Saturday.

Spencer touched first in the 50-yard freestyle in a season-best 21.77 seconds and recorded a 21.34 anchor leg for the Titan 200 medley relay foursome that was victorious in 1:37.33.

He also finished second in the 100 butterfly in 54.46.

WRESTLING

GRANTHAM — Senior 165-pounder Nolan Barger (Clearfield) and freshman 197-pounder Travis Ogden (Clearfield) were runners-up in the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships hosted by Messiah in Hitchcock Arena Saturday.

Barger advanced with a 29-second fall against Messiah’s Kevin Diehl and a 5-1 decision against Delaware Valley’s Brandan Rudy, setting up a duel of nationally-ranked matmen who had split two previous bouts this season.

No. 4 Larry Cannon of Messiah atoned for a 3-2 loss to No. 3 Barger just a week earlier with a solid 8-1 victory highlighted by a four-point near fall. Cannon won their first match, 6-1, back on Nov. 5.

Barger is 29-2 with a team-high 10 falls, three technical falls and four major decisions.

An 11-0 major decision over Jordan Nochimson of Wilkes sent Ogden to the finals, where he lost for the third time this season to Messiah’s Kyle Koser, 16-0. The previous bouts were much closer as Koser, who is on the d3wrestle.com contender list, prevailed 13-6 in the season-opening Messiah Invitational and 9-5 at the Budd Whitehill National Duals.

Ogden is 23-9 with nine pins, three tech falls and 3 major decisions.

Lycoming, ranked No. 12 by d3wrestle.com, had 14 placewinners for a third-place finish in the five-team tourney behind No. 2 Messiah (166.5) and No. 13 Wilkes (132). No. 11 Delaware Valley (99.5) was fourth.

CLARION — Redshirt senior 149-pounder Jake Keller (Curwensville) lost both of his matches for Clarion in a 24-10 Eastern Wrestling League win over George Mason in Tippin Gym Friday night and 23-9 loss to Michigan State in the first meet in Marwick-Boyd Auditorium Sunday afternoon.

He was major decisioned 16-4 by George Mason’s Sahid Karbo and 10-1 by Michigan Stage’s Nicholas Trimble.

Keller is 2-5 in dual meets and 2-7 overall for the Golden Eagles (4-7, 1-2 EWL).

MEN’S BASKETBALL

GREENSBURG — Freshman Cody Spaid (Clearfield) scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in two Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference starts for Pitt-Greensburg last week.

He had seven points and a like number of boards in a 99-66 homecourt loss to Penn State Altoona Wednesday and nine points and seven rebounds against Medaille at Buffalo, N.Y. Saturday.

Despite being eighth in average minutes played (15.4), Spaid continues to top the Bobcats (0-18, 0-11 AMCC) in rebounds with 91 after sharing team-high totals in both games.

He is also fifth in points with 117 (6.5 ppg) on 44-for-85 shooting with six three-pointers from the field and 23-for-36 for a team-leading 63.6 percentage at the foul line.

In 18 games with seven starts, Spaid has recorded 30 assists, seven steals and 11 blocked shots.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Senior Jessica Shomo (Clearfield) of Clarion competed in two events at the Youngstown State College Invite at the Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS) Saturday.

She placed 19th in the long jump with a leap of 4.98 meters (16-¼ inches) and 25th in the 200-meter dash in 27.80 seconds.

BUCKNELL — Sophomore Sarah Lash (Clearfield) placed 25th in the shot put at the Gulden Invitational with a heave of 8.33 meters (27 feet, 4 inches) in Bucknell’’s Gerhard Fieldhouse Saturday.
